LOUISVILLE SLUGGER® TPX® HIDING BATS IN SOME OF
THE SWEETEST SPOTS IN BASEBALL WHILE USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO CONNECT WITH HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS
LOUISVILLE, KY (December 5, 2011) – Storied bat maker Louisville Slugger had high school baseball players and their parents chasing all over the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on Saturday looking for ten free bats the company was giving away. These weren’t just any old bats, and this wasn’t just any old promotional giveaway.
The bats were $369.99 retail TPX Z-1000 bats that meet new BBCOR high school bat standards that go into effect in January. The promotion was a social media scavenger hunt that posted clues via the Louisville Slugger Facebook® page and Twitter account as the company hid bats in some of The Sweetest Spots for baseball around the Metroplex.
“Thanks for the fun!” several bat chasers posted on Facebook. “Finding the bat made my weekend! Thanks Louisville Slugger! Finding the bat at our rival high school made it better!” posted one young ball player. “Thanks for the bat. I absolutely love it!” posted another.
Louisville Slugger says the Dallas/Fort Worth Z-1000 BBCOR bat drop was just the first of many to come.
“We plan to do this in places all over the country in December and January,” said Louisville Slugger president Bill Clark. “Kids and their parents had fun trying to get one, and we had a blast hiding bats and giving clues!”
The company won’t say what other cities and towns it plans to hide bats in over the coming weeks, but it’s asking for suggestions at facebook.com/louisvilleslugger and @sluggernation on Twitter. The company is also partnering with teen-oriented and sportstalk radio stations across the country to give away more bats.
“Obviously, any promotion intends to generate excitement and gain product exposure and sampling,” Clark said. “Our Sweetest Spots promotion is a grand slam on that front, but it’s also a big deal for the players and parents who get these BBCOR Z-1000s.”
The National Federation of High Schools has mandated that baseball players swing new BBCOR-certified bats in 2012, making the bats they had previously obsolete.
“The kids who get the Z-1000s we’re giving away are getting a great bat while also saving nearly $400. For the players and their parents, that’s very sweet,” Clark said.
