IS MY BAT LEGAL OR NOT?
An Attempt to Bring Clarity to a Confusing Situation

LOUISVILLE, KY (February 11, 2011) –Many parents and youth baseball players are confused and frustrated over the various actions related to composite bats taken by baseball’s governing organizations for the 2011 season.  We at Louisville Slugger® TPX® sympathize.  It seems that changes have been announced almost daily by one organization or another regarding 2¼-inch bats, complicating matters further.

Please understand that in our 127 years in baseball, Louisville Slugger TPX has never made and sold a product that is not in compliance with baseball governing organizations’ regulations or performance standards.  When our products go to market they are in compliance.  Always have been.  Always will be.  That’s the way we’ve done business since 1884.

Because of governing body decisions, some 2¼-inch composite barrel 2011 TPX bats that were compliant when they were sent into the marketplace no longer meet the rules of some organizations, while they are still legal for play in others. Simply stated, there is confusion because all youth baseball organizations are not in agreement over standards for composite bats.

As baseball’s oldest, most recognized, and trusted bat maker, we hope to bring some clarity to the issue by providing the following chart that shows all of our various 2011 TPX 2¼-inch barrel youth bat models. We have been in contact with all of baseball’s national governing bodies. Based on what we’ve learned from these organizations, the chart designates if each 2011 bat model is or isn’t approved for play in each league.

As you’ll see, the vast majority of 2011 model Louisville Slugger TPX bats are legal for play. However, if you have any uncertainty at all, or you want to know about a previous year’s model (2010 or earlier), we urge you to check the web site of your league’s national baseball governing organization, or ask the leader of your local league.  Louisville Slugger will also post the chart on its web site at www.slugger.com and keep it up to date.

LIST OF APPROVED & NON-APPROVED 2011 BAT MODELS

Based on Louisville Slugger staff communications with baseball’s various youth governing organizations, the following chart accurately portrays the 2¼-inch barrel 2011 TPX youth bats that are approved or not approved for play in the coming season as of February 14, 2011.  “Yes” indicates approved.  “No” indicates not-approved.
