Louisville Slugger® parent Hillerich & Bradsby Co. names Lawrence Writer COO/CFO

LOUISVILLE, KY – (November 7, 2011)   Hillerich & Bradsby Co., one of the oldest and most respected names in the sporting goods industry and parent of the iconic Louisville Slugger® brand, has named Lawrence Writer to the position of Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer. 

Writer joins H&B after a 15-year career in a variety of high-level operational and financial leadership roles in major companies. 

"Lawrence is a very experienced and well-educated leader who is highly motivated and passionate about helping us succeed," said H&B President & CEO John Hillerich IV. "His knowledge, insight and acumen will greatly benefit H&B."

Hillerich says Writer, who joined the company November 1, has a wide array of domestic and international business experience which will help H&B as it competes in the global marketplace.  He noted that Writer has a proven track record of successfully working with companies to drive operational improvements and optimize their business models.
"I’m confident Lawrence possesses everything required to be a highly effective leader who will help us take our 127-year-old company to a new level of competitiveness in today’s marketplace," Hillerich said.

Originally from Seattle, Wash., Writer began his career with Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco as a Vice President in the Trade Bank.  After earning his MBA, Writer held subsequent positions with Goldman Sachs and The Carlyle Group in New York City.  Lawrence joins H&B from AlixPartners, a premier global consulting firm, where he served as a Director.  While at AlixPartners, he served in numerous interim management roles with premier consumer retail companies.

As Hillerich & Bradsby’s COO/CFO, Writer will oversee the storied company’s supply chain, information technology and strategic planning, as well as all of finance, accounting and credit.

Lawrence holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from the Wharton School and a Masters of Arts degree in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.  He also holds dual Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and International Studies from the Jackson School at the University of Washington in Seattle.

The son of a former Vietnam era prisoner of war, Lawrence has been active in various charitable organizations in support of our troops and their families.  He enjoys training for and competing in triathlons, including two full ironman finishes.  He is married with two children.
