LOUISVILLE SLUGGER® TPS® PRESENTS WATLEY
FIRST-EVER NPF OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD
TPS PLAYERS MENDOZA, CHARTERS, HABER ALSO HONORED BY NPF
(SULPHER, LOUISIANA – August 19, 2011) – Natasha Watley of the USSSA Pride has been named the first-ever winner of the Louisville Slugger® National Pro Fastpitch Offensive Player of the Year Award. Watley led NPF hitters with a .481 batting average, collecting 63 hits in 36 games.
"Louisville Slugger TPS is honored to be part of National Pro Fastpitch and present the first-ever NPF Offensive Player of the Year Award to Natasha Watley," said TPS Fastpitch division manager Caroline Howe. "Natasha's stats this season are remarkable, and she is clearly deserving of this honor."
Watley received a 3-foot tall trophy from Louisville Slugger TPS for her achievements, which included 21 RBIs and 34 runs scored. TPS plans to present the NPF Offensive Player of the Year Award annually.
"The NPF gives these athletes an opportunity to play after college at the highest level, against the best competition, while also serving as role models for young girls playing fastpitch," Howe said.
TPS PLAYERS HONORED
Olympic gold medalist and Louisville Slugger TPS contract player Jessica Mendoza of the USSSA Pride finished another successful regular season with a .379 batting average, 10 home runs, and 44 hits in her 37 games. Mendoza was honored as the NPF Player of the Year and was also named to the All-NPF Team as an outfielder.
Mendoza was also awarded the first-ever Jennie Finch Award as the NPF player who best exemplifies character, humility and overall excellence.
TPS contract players Ashley Charters and Alissa Haber, both of the USSSA Pride, were named to the All-NPF Team. Charters batted .354 while playing second base. She hit 5 home runs and 26 RBIs. Haber had a .333 average while playing solid defense in the outfield for the Pride.
