DENNIS TURNER JOINS LOUISVILLE SLUGGER AS THE COMPANY MARCHES BACK TOWARD SOFTBALL DOMINANCE,
WILL WORK WITH THE LEGENDARY HANK BASSETT IN LEADING THE WAY
LOUISVILLE, KY – (May 21, 2012) For decades, Louisville Slugger has enjoyed countless successes in the world of slow-pitch softball. Many more are on the horizon for the storied company as it adds softball-playing legend and industry veteran Dennis Turner to the fold.
Turner, who has worked as National Promotions Manager for Worth Slow-pitch since 2007, is a world champion and All World player. He will join the legendary Hank Bassett in laying the groundwork for Louisville Slugger’s long-term return to the top of the slow-pitch arena and will work together closely with Hank prior to his retirement at the end of 2012.
“Hank Bassett has an incredible legacy in the sport of softball and managing that business for us, but he plans to retire at the end of the year,” said Hillerich & Bradsby Co. Louisville Slugger division president Bill Clark. “We have great momentum right now because we have outstanding softball product. We continue to develop industry-leading technology, so we wanted to be out in front and get the right guy in place to work with Hank who could ultimately succeed him. We have no doubt Dennis Turner is the right guy.”
Turner will join the Louisville Slugger team immediately to maximize the transition time with Hank and create an impact on the business quickly.
“I am extremely excited to be part of Louisville Slugger,” Turner said. “H&B has such a historic tradition and nostalgic atmosphere, I knew it would be the place for our family. My wife, Liz, and I are anxious to start our new journey. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of something special.”
Clark said Louisville Slugger is fortunate to have Hank Bassett and Dennis Turner together for the next seven months.
“Hank has done so much for the game of softball and our company,” Clark said, “and he will continue to have an impact for years to come because of all of his efforts.”
Now Bassett has the opportunity to lay the groundwork for his successor, Dennis Turner, to have unprecedented success by helping him transition into the role of Softball Business Manager.
“Dennis knows the game, and he knows the key players in it,” Bassett said. “He and Louisville Slugger will be highly successful in softball for years to come.”
Turner is a graduate of the University of Missouri-St. Louis with a degree in Physical Education. In addition to his sports, sporting goods industry and softball experience, he has also served as Vice-president of Gateway Surveyors, Inc., in Ballwin, Missouri.
