LOUISVILLE SLUGGER® SIGNS BRAVES' JUSTIN UPTON TO SWING MLB PRIME™
OFFICIAL BAT OF MLB® HAS ENTIRE ATLANTA OUTFIELD UNDER CONTRACT
LOUISVILLE, KY – (August 27, 2013) - Louisville Slugger®, the maker of the number one bat in Major League Baseball®, announced today that it has signed Atlanta Braves outfielder Justin Upton to a bat contract. Justin joins fellow Braves outfielders B.J. Upton, his brother, and Jason Heyward as Slugger guys, giving Louisville Slugger a stranglehold on the Atlanta outfield. All three are swinging the historic bat maker’s new and innovative MLB Prime bats.
"We're thrilled to have Justin Upton join the Slugger family," said Louisville Slugger Manager of Professional Baseball Sales Chuck Schupp. "Justin is the kind of player we always look to join our family. He's a leader on his team and an influencer of other players."
At 25, Upton, is one of MLB's great young stars. The Norfolk, Va., native arrived in the big leagues at age 19. He already has 131 home runs in six-plus seasons since coming up with the Diamondbacks and is a two-time National League All-Star. Upton has 23 HRs so far this season and is leaving his mark as a catalyst for the Braves as they continue on their journey toward the postseason.
Upton has swung Louisville Slugger bats during his career while also trying bats from other companies. After working for several seasons on exactly what he wanted, he felt confident in the Louisville Slugger product and service to make the commitment this season. Upton swings a 34-inch, 31.5-ounce U50 model natural-finish flame-tempered ash Louisville Slugger bat named just for him. U50 means he’s the 50th player in MLB history whose last name begins with the letter U to have a special Louisville Slugger model made just for him. His bat is cupped and has wood grain filler, but no lacquer. In addition to his Braves teammates, Upton joins Louisville Slugger Prime 9 players such Joey Votto, Buster Posey, Adam Jones, David Wright, Derek Jeter and Brandon Phillips in swinging MLB Prime.

MLB PRIME – THE HARDEST BATS. EVER.
MLB Prime bats made their debut in Major League Baseball with the start of the 2013 regular season. Louisville Slugger MLB Prime bats are made from the highest-quality furniture-grade veneer logs. They are cut and dried in the Amish craftsmanship tradition. MLB Prime barrels are hardened by Louisville Slugger's proprietary 360-degree compression. Finally, they receive Louisville Slugger’s new Advanced Finish System with 9H on the universal hardness scale, 30 percent harder than the finish on any competitors' bats. The same highest-quality-available MLB Prime wood bats that Upton and other big leaguers swing are also available for amateur players at retail.
