JETER WILL HAVE TRUSTED FRIEND WITH HIM FOR HIS 14TH ALL-STAR GAME
LOUISVILLE, KY (July 10, 2014) –When Derek Jeter steps to the plate in the 85th MLB® All-Star Game in Minneapolis he’ll have a long-time friend with him. His trusted Louisville Slugger P72 model northern white ash bat will be in his hands. It’s the model he’s used for every one of his 12,300 plate appearances over a 20 season Major League Baseball career.
“You know, I signed out of high school and I was looking for a wooden bat. Louisville Slugger, it goes without saying, how reputable they are, how long they’ve been around, how much success people have had with it,” Jeter said. “In terms of the model, I just picked the bat that was shaped like my aluminum bat. It was the P72 and my entire career I’ve never swung another bat.”
This is the 14th time Jeter has been selected as an MLB All-Star and the 9th time voted a starter. The future Hall of Famer has been offered bats by other makers but has never wavered from Louisville Slugger, the Official Bat of MLB and all-time number one bat in baseball.
“You take a lot of pride in your work and the equipment that you use. Louisville is the best, they’re the best in the business. That’s the reason why I’ve used it and so many other players have used it throughout the years,” Jeter said.
No one can argue Jeter’s success with his Louisville Slugger P72 model bat; 3,400 career hits, over 530 doubles, 258 home runs, and nearly 1,300 RBIs with a career .311 batting average. He’s 11 for 25 in his previous All-Star Game appearances for an astounding .440 batting average, a .481 on-base percentage and a .600 slugging percentage.
“It’s the end of an era,” said Louisville Slugger Manager of Professional Baseball James Sass. “While it’s sad to know this is Derek’s last All-Star Game, we know he’s leaving the future of baseball in very good hands. There are so many great young players, including ones in the minors, who will be making an impact on the game with their Louisville Slugger bats.
While Jeter makes his 14th appearance in the midsummer classic, Louisville Slugger celebrates 85 years of MLB All-Star Games, the only bat brand to be part of every All-Star Game ever played.
