Pronounced TOH-ME.
Jim Thome’s batting average of .281 is uncommonly good for a power hitter. His 13.16 AB/HR average (about 1 HR for every 14 at bats) is the fourth lowest in major league history behind such greats as Babe Ruth (11.76), Mark McGwire (10.61) and Barry Bonds (12.90).
On September 16, 2007, he became the 23rd player in baseball history to hit 500 home runs (often referred to as "Thome Runs" on scoreboards) – and the first player in history to make his 500th HR a walk off winner. Not only that, it was on "Jim Thome Bobblehead Day."
